Their use was\nmore functional than purely decorative \u2013 they were used in mosques for the\npurposes of ablution. The cistern in the Iglesia de San Crist\u00f3bal and the&nbsp;Aljibe del\nTrillo&nbsp;cistern, with their horseshoe arch, are particularly fine examples<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/focusoneurope.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/DSC04750.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>From San Crist\u00f3bal, you can either climb\nthe&nbsp;Cuesta de la\n Alhacaba&nbsp;hill that follows the ancient Nasrid fortress\nwall, or go down the&nbsp;Carril de la\n Lona&nbsp;and get some great views of the eastern part of Granada, especially from\nthe Mirador de la Lona.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nearby you will come across the&nbsp;Plaza de San Miguel Bajo, a lovely\nsquare and a great place to have a rest and enjoy some delicious local food at\none of the many open-air restaurants. It is also pleasant to stroll through the\nnarrow streets and alleyways leading off from the square to find\nthe&nbsp;Convento de Santa Isabel la Real, or the&nbsp;Palacio de\nDar-Al-Horra, the home of the mother of the King Boabdil. This building\u2019s\naustere-looking fa\u00e7ade contrasts sharply with the lavish decoration inside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Calle Santa Isabel la\n Real, which later was renamed the&nbsp;Camino Nuevo de San\nNicol\u00e1s, takes you back to the bustling Mirador de San Nicol\u00e1s with its\nunparalleled views of the Alhambra,\nwhich perfectly finishes off your visit to the Albaic\u00edn quarter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The&nbsp;aljibes&nbsp;(Arab cisterns) are dotted all around the Albaic\u00edn quarter and are one of the most typical features of the district.
